What is Baptism?

Baptism is immersion in water of a repentant believer. It is the clear, symbolic picture of the new life we have in Christ. Baptism illustrates that we have died with Christ - died to our sin and died to ourselves - and we have been raised to life with Him (Romans 6:1-5).

Baptism also illustrates our identification with one another in the church, uniting us as brothers and sisters who share the life of Christ with one another (1 Corinthians 12:12-13; Ephesians 4:4-6).

We are saved by grace through faith, on account of Christ's death and resurrection (Ephesians 2:8). Entrusting our lives to Christ for our salvation by faith is evidenced initially by confessing Jesus as our Lord, repentance, baptism, and continual surrender to His Lordship by His Spirit throughout our lives.

Why Should I Be Baptized?

  1. It is a command of Christ for all true disciples
    (Matthew 28:18-20; Acts 2:38; 8:25-40).
  2. It is the responsible outward demonstration of the inward change in my life
    (Acts 22:16; Romans 6:4-5).
  3. It identifies me as a member of God’s family of believers (Ephesians 4:4-6).

How Do I Know if This Means Me?

  1. If I have confessed Jesus as my Savior, having repented of my sins and entrusted my life to His Lordship and salvation, but have never been immersed (buried in Water / dunked)
…then I need to be baptized
  2. If I was baptized before but it wasn’t my choice (as an infant, or to satisfy a parent)
…then I need to be baptized
  3. If I was baptized but did not understand what I was doing at the time (it wasn’t explained or I was very young)
…then I need to be baptized

At ACC, we baptize by Immersion (being immersed / dunked in water). This is because it is our intent to follow what is modeled in the Bible as closely as possible. If you were baptized by a method other than immersion, or if, for any of the above stated reasons, you question the legitimacy of your baptism, please contact us and arrange to talk to an elder or staff member, and we will assist you in this important decision.

How Can I Arrange to be Baptized?

Please Contact us to arrange a time to meet with a minister or elder. From there, we will make the necessary arrangements to coordinate your baptism.

If you have determined that this is something you need to do, then we strongly encourage you to act quickly, and not put it off. This is based partially on the immediacy with which baptism is demonstrated in the Bible, especially in the book of Acts.
