Web21 nov. 2024 · The IHS is usually a nickel-plated copper interface material that is designed to draw heat from the tiny silicon die and spread it across the much larger surface area of the CPU. Ideally, you’d want the surfaces of both the IHS and CPU cooler block to perfectly conduct heat across one other. Unfortunately, that isn’t possible in practice. WebApply thermal paste onto the center of the CPU’s IHS. (If you already have thermal paste pre-applied on your cooler, you can skip this step.) You only need to apply a small amount — roughly the size of a grain of rice or a pea — onto the …

Web17 nov. 2024 · It's totally fine for the IHS to sit loose on top of the PCB, because the socket should apply enough force to hold it in place. The only catch: positioning it properly. WebThe socket is determined by what gen CPU it is. With Intel, 8th and 9th Gen are compatible since they use the same socket but 10th and 11th Gen are different. 12th Gen just also released on a new socket entirely as well. So for your current mobo, you'd have to stick with 9th Gen CPUs for any kind of "upgrade".
Web21 okt. 2024 · Pretty common scam to pull the IHS off a good CPU and place it on a lesser CPU, or broken one, to scam people. Not sure why there would still be solder on a delidded i9-9900k. The whole point would be to replace it with liquid metal, so I would hope it would be relatively clean.
